  <title>Eric Clapton: The 1960's Review - October 10</title>
   <link>http://www.hollywoodnorthreport.com/article.php?Article=8003</link>
   <description>

 Eric Clapton: The 1960's Review will be available on DVD October 19, 2010, highlighting the story of the rock artist's formative years.

"...While few would argue that Eric Clapton is one of the finest guitarists of all time, it is sometimes forgotten just how pivotal, influential and downright startling this man was during the 1960's. And while Clapton has remained a musician/songwriter of rare ability with moments of glory resplendent on album after album it was during the decade in which he emerged that his awesome skills were used most creatively.

"In this extraordinary documentary, his life and career throughout these crucial ten years is put under the microscope, and with the help of archive interviews with the man himself, exclusive contributions from friends, band mates and colleagues, rare and classic performance footage, seldom seen photographs, location and period archive plus a host of other features, the story in question is told in a manner it never has been before..."

The DVD also includes new interviews with musicians and performers including John Mayall, Paul Jones, Neil Innes, Tom McGuiness, Chris Dreja, Top Topham, Ben Palmer, Dave Kelly and Cream producer Bill Halverson, plus insight from Cream biographer Chris Welch, Yardbirds biographer Alan Clayson and Uncut magazine's contributing editor, Nigel Williamson.

  <title>Pacificor Terminating Terminator 3000  </title>
   <link>http://www.hollywoodnorthreport.com/article.php?Article=8000</link>
   <description>

Michael Stevens reporting for HNR...

Further to our August 13 report, regarding Vancouver's Red Bear Entertainment entering into an agreement to produce a 3D, Terminator 3000 animated feature, comes a 'cease and desist' order, from The Terminator rights holder Pacificor to Hannover House:

"...Re: Pacificor, LLC (“Pacificor”)

"We are counsel for Pacificor, LLC (“Pacificor”). We believe you are aware that pursuant to an order entered on March 3, 2010 in In re: T Asset Acquistion Company, LLC, et. al, United States Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California, Los Angeles Division, Case No. 2009-31853-ER, Pacificor acquired assets relating to the Terminator Motion Picture Franchise, including, but not limited to, rights to sequels, remakes, all mechanizing and other derivative rights related to sequels and remakes, and other assets, collectively defined as the “Granted Terminator Assets” in said order.

"We recently became aware through various online media reports that Hannover House, purportedly a division of Target Development Group, Inc. (“TDGI”), entered into a purported feature film development venture with a Vancouver based entity, Red Bear Entertainment, for “Teminator 3000” an animated feature film based upon the characters introduced in the original Terminator movie.

"This knowledge came as a surprise to Pacificor. It did not license or authorize any such development or film. Indeed, it has not been contacted by Hannover House, TDGI, Red Bear Entertainment or anyone else seeking such a license or approval.

"While some of the reports we have seen mention that Pacificor “retains approval and licencing authority...” over the proposed project, a reasonable inference drawn from the reports is that such approval has been obtained. Otherwise, why would the “development deal” have been entered into in the first place and why would the reports mention a proposed January 2011 start date for production?

"Please be advised that the suggestion that Hannover House, TDGI, Red Bear Entertainment or any other entity is, has, or will be developing, producing, marketing or in any other way utilizing characters and situations which are part of the Terminator Franchise infringes upon and interferes with Pacificor&#146;s ownership rights. To illustrate, the suggestion that Hannover House, TDGI and/or Red Bear Entertainment will be developing a feature film, animated or not, directly interferes with Pacificor&#146;s right to capitalize on its assets in the manner it deems in its best interests. This public pronouncement could impact Pacificor&#146;s ability to attract and negotiate with development partners of its own choosing.

"The purported development deal, among other things, violates the U.S. Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. &#167; 101, et. seq., constitutes trademark interference and can result in civil penalties. Accordingly, we demand that Hannover House, TDGI and/or Red Bear Entertainment: (1) immediately issue a retraction clearly indicating that Pacificor had no knowledge of the development venture and that its approval has not been sought nor obtained; (2) stop issuing press releases mentioning the purported development venture and the Terminator Franchise unless and until approval for such a venture is obtained from Pacificor; (3) notify this office in writing not later than five days after your receipt of this letter of your compliance with these demands..."

   <link>http://www.hollywoodnorthreport.com/article.php?Article=7999</link>
   <description>

Michael Stevens reporting for HNR...

According to reports, Hannover House, a division of Target Development Group, Inc., has entered into a feature film development deal with Vancouver's Red Bear Entertainment, to produce Terminator 3000, a $70-million dollar, 3D animated film based on 'characters and situations' introduced in director James Cameron's 1984 feature The Terminator.

Red Bear is looking at a January, 2011 production start.

Cameron's film was set in post-apocalyptic 2029, where artificially intelligent machines seek to exterminate what is left of the human race. Two beings from this era travel back in time to 1984 Los Angeles. One is a 'Terminator', a cyborg assassin programmed to kill 'Sarah Connor'. The other is 'Kyle Reese', a human resistance fighter sent to protect her.

Lionsgate reports that the Toronto/UK-lensed feature Kick-Ass has debuted at number one on DVD sales charts. The Blu-ray combo pack of the film (three discs- including Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy), also debuted at number one.

In addition, the release came out of its first weekend as the top movie download on the iTunes store, Zune and Sony/Playstation and achieved the biggest digital week performance ever by a Lionsgate title.

Kick-Ass, which grossed nearly $50 million in North America and $100 million worldwide during its theatrical run, also achieved the highest box office-to-DVD conversion rate for all major DVD releases this quarter, helping Lionsgate to maintain industry leadership in box office-to-DVD conversion.

"Kick-Ass is truly one of the most unique, entertaining, and action-packed movies of the year," said Ron Schwartz, Lionsgate General Manager and Executive Vice President. "With its strong word-of-mouth, we felt confident that it would have a powerful home entertainment debut and are particularly pleased with the success of the Blu-ray combo pack, which accounted for 42% of week one sell-through revenue."

Co-written and directed by Matthew Vaughn, Kick-Ass stars Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad) and Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes), along with Chloe Grace Moretz (Let Me In) and Nicolas Cage (National Treasure).

Based on the comic book series written by Mark Millar and John S. Romita Jr., the story follows 'Dave Lizewski' (Johnson), an ordinary teenager who goes unnoticed in high school until he dons a mask to become 'Kick-Ass', a costumed, vigilante crime fighter. Bruised and beaten and without any real super powers, he is saved by a father-daughter duo, 'Big Daddy' and 'Hit-Girl', who have been fighting their own battle against a vicious crime figure. After a firestorm of publicity, Kick-Ass becomes the target of the crime lord.

Meanwhile, the newHit-Girl 12-inch action figure will be released September 2010, based on the 11-year old costumed vigilante character, starring in the film.

"...She may be cute, but she's got a filthy mouth! 'Hit-Girl', a.k.a. 'Mindy McCready' is an 11-year-old, pigtail-wearing waif with the fighting skills of a ninja. And the little superhero has proven that she has some real kick-ass skills! This highly detailed Hit Girl Action Figure stands approximately 12-inches tall, features multiple points of articulation, and includes her signature plaid cloth skirt, purple wig, and cape. Armed with a pair of butterfly knives and her double Gitano-bladed Mindy Stick, Hit-Girl is ready for action!

  <title>Badler's Lizard Queen Returns To V </title>
   <link>http://www.hollywoodnorthreport.com/article.php?Article=7994</link>
   <description>

Michael Stevens reporting for HNR...

According to executive producer Scott Rosenbaum, actress Jane Badler will appear on ABC's Vancouver-lensed TV series V as a recurring character.

Badler played the lizard 'Diana' in the original 1980's V series and will play a new character named 'Diana' in the rebooted show as the reptilian alien mother of 'Anna'.

"...'Anna' (Morena Baccarin) is keeping her mother prisoner on the mother ship in a never-before-seen section that has been designed to look like the Visitors' home planet..."

Starring Elizabeth Mitchell, V, based on the 1983 mini-series, was one of the most-watched series premieres of the 2009-10 TV season when it debuted to 14.3 million viewers.

V also stars Morris Chestnut as 'Ryan Nichols', Joel Gretsch as 'Father Jack', Lourdes Benedicto as 'Valerie', Logan Huffman as 'Tyler Evans', Laura Vandervoort as 'Lisa', Morena Baccarin as 'Anna' and Scott Wolf as 'Chad Decker'.

Inspired by "It Can't Happen Here" a 1935 novel by author Sinclair Lewis focusing on fascism in the US, V was originally created by director–producer Kenneth Johnson.

DC Comics also published a spin-off comic book series based on the original V TV series.

The updated V TV series chronicles the arrival on Earth of a technologically advanced alien species which ostensibly comes in peace, but actually has sinister motives, looking to 'serve mankind' on a dinner platter.

V is produced by The Scott Peters Company, HDFilms and Warner Bros. Television.

"...Giant spaceships appear over 29 major cities throughout the world, and 'Anna' (Baccarin), the beautiful and charismatic leader of the extra-terrestrial 'Visitors', claims to come in peace.

"'The Visitors' claim to only need a small amount of Earth's resources, in exchange for which they will share their advanced technological and medical knowledge. As a small number of humans begin to doubt the sincerity of the seemingly benevolent Visitors, FBI counter-terrorism agent 'Erica Evans' (Mitchell) discovers that the aliens have spent decades infiltrating human governments, businesses, and religious institutions and are now in the final stages of their plan to take over the Earth.

"Erica joins the resistance movement, which includes 'Ryan' (Chestnut), a Visitor sleeper agent who over time developed human emotions and now wants to save humanity.

The Visitors have won favor among the people of Earth by curing a variety of diseases, and have recruited Earth's youth — including Erica's son 'Tyler' (Huffman) — to serve them unknowingly as spies..."

Michael Stevens reporting for HNR...

Workers from the BC film and TV industry joined with members of the business community @ Vancouver's North Shore Studios August 5, regarding the new provincial 'Harmonized Sales Tax'.

"Harmonizing the sales taxes will help attract more shows and more jobs to BC, making our province a more competitive destination for TV and movie productions,” said Peter Leitch, president of North Shore Studios/Mammoth Studios and chair of the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of British Columbia.

"The 'HST' is strong medicine for our economy – just like medicine, it may taste bad, but it&#146;s going to make sure we&#146;re healthy and strong tomorrow," said Jock Finlayson, Executive Vice President, Business Council of British Columbia.

"It&#146;s going to help protect the jobs we have, help spark job creation, and help create higher-paying jobs. The 'PST' was a barrier to the kind of investments that create employment and drive the economy. Harmonization takes down that barrier."

Take a look at the latest cover of "Empire" Magazine, featuring actor Michael Cera, supporting the Toronto-lensed Universal monsters feature, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, based on the Oni Press comic book series by Bryan Lee O&#146;Malley.

"...Get The Hot Girl. Defeat her Evil Exes. Hit Love Where It Hurts..."

The only catch to winning 'Ramona Flowers' (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him.

"Scott has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It&#146;s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart&#146;s ass—and now is back in town—to the teenage distraction he&#146;s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn&#146;t been easy.

"He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes control her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor. As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues&#146; gallery from her past—from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsome identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over..."

  <title>Syfy Takes A Shine To Blood &amp; Chrome</title>
   <link>http://www.hollywoodnorthreport.com/article.php?Article=7991</link>
   <description>

Michael Stevens reporting for HNR...

According to reports, a developing online Syfy series titled Blood &amp; Chrome will focus on the Battlestar Galactica character, 'William "Husker" Adama', as a young man during the first 'Cylon War'.

Mark Stern, Syfy's executive VP of original programming/co-head of original content for Universal Cable Productions, confirmed that Battlestar Galactica and Caprica co-executive producer Michael Taylor will write the script for the new series.

Taylor said that Blood &amp; Chrome will be about"...a young man's initiation into war. Both the realities of war as fought by soldiers on the ground and the somewhat less real version portrayed in the media..."

The series will comprise 10 episodes @ 10 minutes each, incorporating green screens and virtual sets using high-tech scans made from the original Battlestar Galactica sets in Vancouver.

"But the movie isn't confined to Galactica," said Taylor.

"Far from it. It's a story that will take us to new corners of the Battlestar world and yet it aims to be a very contemporary war movie in a lot of ways...We're not going to be shying away from R-rated blood and guts and sex. Because this is initially meant to air online, we pretty much have no restrictions in that department."

If the series takes off, it will serve as a 'backdoor pilot for a Syfy TV series...
