Paul W.S. Anderson will write/direct a remake of director Paul Bartel's 1975 exploitation feature Deathrace 2000.

Anderson, of Alien vs. Predator and Resident Evil fame, will produce Deathrace 3000 with C/W partners Tom Cruise/Paula Wagner for Paramount Pictures.

Premise of the original Roger Corman-produced film, pitted David Carradine as 'Frankenstein' and Sylvester Stallone as 'Machine Gun Joe', driving each other crazy in a competitive 'deathrace' against pedestrians.

Anderson reportedly plans a Road Warrior type of picture.

"Set in 2020, ours is an ultraviolent, no-holds-barred race with heavily armed Escalades, Ferraris and Aston Martins", he said.
