We received this set report regarding the new Bruce Willis feature Sixteen Blocks, directed by Richard "Lethal Weapon" Donner, currently shooting in Toronto:
"I was booked as an extra on the new Bruce Willis movie Sixteen Blocks filming in downtown Toronto, playing a secretary walking by on the street. The location was an exterior scene in an older part of Toronto on Dundas Street west at Keele, in front of a bakery.
As one of the assistant directors told a group of about 60 of us 'passerby' extras in the holding area, in the movie Bruce Willis plays a detective called 'Jack', all bagged-out after an all-night shift, then unexpectedly ordered to escort a former jailbird punk 'Eddie' (Mos Def) to an early morning courthouse appearance.
But it is not gangbangers that Eddie is going to rat on, but corrupt 'cops' within Willis' own police precint. Willis can't trust anybody on the force, so he and Eddie become targets as they wind their way along a treacherous 16 blocks to the courthouse.
In my scene, Eddie gives Jack the slip on the streets and ducks into a bakery, momentarily intrigued by pastries on display, (given that he used to be a baker in prison).
As patrol cars pull up, Jack looks frantically around the street for Eddie, cutting through a group of Con Ed construction workers busy tearing up the street, before tapping on the bakery window for Eddie to come out.
... director Richard Donner controlled the set like a pro, very friendly and listening attentively to both cast and crew alike.
But it was Bruce Willis that made my day. He is a big man, at least 6' tall , which I would never have guessed from watching his Die Hard films. Maybe it was because Cybil Shepard on Moonlighting used to wear high heels all the time. I don't know. But this pleasant man is the real thing and was quite courteous to everyone around him.
Also on set, I heard that the new 50 Cents movie that's been filming around here the past few weeks, is going to be called Get Rich or Die Trying."
