Canadian Petitions to get on Survivor Vancouverite Ian MacKenzie's quest to end CBS/Marc Burnett discrimination August 11th 2005 05:13am | Posted by: Editor-in-Chief Ever since the first episode of Survivor on CBS there has been one question that always plagued me and my friends….Why are Canadians not allowed on the show? The Survivor eligibly rules clearly state that “All contestants must be United States citizens and be living in the United States.” For the first few years it was easier to accept the theory that maybe the rule existed to prevent the leaking of information on the results of the show or due to legal contracts that might only be valid in the US or between US citizens. But then Canadians started to pop up in reality shows; first it was an odd one here and there then earlier this year it turned into a full on downpour. The downpour started with the three Edmonton, Alberta ladies that took part in last season The Bachelor on ABC and continues to this day with Mark Burnett’s latest CBS reality show Rockstar: INXS. In Rockstar 4 Canadian rock singers were originally in the running to take over vocal duties for famous Aussie rockband INXS; with the show now half over 3 Canadian still stand with 8 rockers out of 15 left in total. So it would seem that CBS and Burnett have a double standard….which brings us to… A Man, A Dream, A Reality Show Ian MacKenzie from Vancouver has set up a petition site called letmeonsurvivor.com that he hopes will help him do just that. He's already garnered the endorsement of 7 Survivor alumni including the Ethan, Lex and Jerri. So do us here at HNR a favor and check out his site and help him get to try out for the show…..he has 1524 signatures so far and intends to send the petition to CBS in October.
