Despite a reported $500 million financial commitment accompanying 'shock-jock' Howard Stern's Sirius satellite radio debut January 9 in the US, he is not part of the package on Sirius' Canadian service.
"At this time, Howard Stern is not part of the Sirius Canada initial channel lineup," said Jeff Roman, spokesman for Sirius Canada Inc.
Sirius Canada is a partnership between US-based Sirius Satellite Radio, Canadian broadcaster Standard Radio and the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. (CBC)
"At the end of the day, it was a company decision," said Roman.
But HNR readers can read some 'highlights' of what they missed on Stern's debut show here :
At 6:00 am, the sound of a heartbeat, playing since January 6 suddenly stopped as a flatuent song parody of the theme from 2001 A Space Odyssey took over the airwaves.
Among some technical sound problems, Stern was finally introduced by George "Sulu" Takei of the first Star Trek TV series, who said he will be the official announcer for the show.
Takei introduced Stern's crew, Benjy Bronk, Gary Dell'Abate, Richard Christy, Sal Governale, Fred Norris, Robin Quivers, Artie Lange and Howard Stern.
Stern said Sirius went over the 3.3 million subscriber level, a far cry from the 18 million + audience he had on commecial radio.
Stern began to use the 'F-word'. He said he doesn't believe that 'a**hole' or 'c***' is a curse word, using the latter to describe Martha Stewart's daughter.
Stern took some phone calls and gave out his new listener phone number : 888-9-A**HOLE.
The crew started cutting up Takei and how old he is. Takei said he's 68.
Stern and Robin Quivers talked about the TV series Dancing with the Stars and said that an actress' lips look like 'labia'.
The crew talked about the movie Brokeback Mountain. Takei called it a 'brilliant' film.
Stern said he'd wait for the DVD.
Gary said rocker David Lee Roth, taking over Stern's old commercial radio show had passed on their request for Stern to talk to him.
Stern said that if Roth is going to do 'reality radio' he has to take the negative calls with the positive.
There was mention of a report on CNN about Stern's stock payoff at Sirius.
'Captain Janks' played some prank calls, where he asked a female TV host, on-air, if she shaves her privates.
Stern then revealed he is married. Then he revealed he is NOT married and just wanted to gauge people's reactions.
A caller told Stern he was surprised the self-described 'King of all Media' wasn't on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Stern said he was on the cover of Esquire and Us Weekly.
At a press conference, Takei introduced Maria Menounos from Access Hollywood. Stern asked her if she ever had sex with actor Vin Diesel.
Kim Dean from 'Inside Edition' asked how Stern would keep his show 'fresh' if he can curse. Stern said he doesn't rely on the shock value of cursing.
Menounos asked Stern if he's afraid of the FCC going after satellite radio. Stern said there is no legal justification for censoring pay satellite radio. He said cable channels like HBO and Showtime can show sex filled shows because people choose to pay.
Stern said he is nervous about 'pleasuring' his audience but he can control it.
A reporter from Billboard Magazine asked Stern if he plans on broadcasting his show on the internet. Stern said they are in talks and he's confident it will happen.
An international reporter asked Stern what he finds 'indecent', if he doesn't think his show is indecent.
Stern said the US government is lying to the people and he finds that to be indecent.
After the press conference, Stern said the movie King Kong didn't do as well as expected. Robin Quivers said the whole premise of King Kong is out of whack. Stern said that King Kong is a big black guy who falls for a white woman and the white people bring the black guy to New York to kill him.
Stern took a call from another listener who said he's been listening to Sirius for 5 years and welcomed him to the service.
Takei introduced Robin Quivers about to do her daily news, talking about her weight loss from the Master Cleanser diet and how she had her breasts reduced in an operation years ago.
