According to steveniles.com, Rogue Pictures has optioned the Steve Niles/Rob Zombie, IDW Publishing comic book Bigfoot for a big screen adaptation.

Published during the fall of 2005, Bigfoot is considered by Niles' to be a 'serious' graphic novel focusing on a foul-smelling, homicidal 'sasquatch' that rampages throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Artwork for the series is by Heavy Metal magazine great Richard Corben.

Screenwriters will use the graphic novel as a skeleton to build the feature film version and expand upon its themes.

"The whole reason Rob and I created the Bigfoot comic, and now the film, is to undo the damage done by movies like Harry And The Hendersons that made 'Bigfoot' a silly character," Niles said.

"I’ve always found the idea of Bigfoot to be scary. I hope the film reflects that."

As for other 'abominable snowmen' themes in comic books, underground 'adults only' comic book fans recall Robert Crumb's female 'Yeti, Bigfoot', appearing in "Home Grown Funnies" during the 1970's. It was Kitchen Sink Press' best-selling underground comic book of all time, with sales of over 160,000 copies. The reason for its popularity was the legendary Whiteman Meets Bigfoot story.

'Whiteman' is initially kidnapped by the large and smelly Yeti, but eventually falls in love with her, with no desire to return to civilization.
