Don’t expect Kirk ‘Sticky’ Jones to be taking it easy in his latest role. Jones plays the half-human half-vampire hero in Blade: The Series, which is currently shooting in Vancouver. The show is a spin-off from the successful Blade movie franchise starring Wesley Snipes, which was based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The role of Blade demands extensive stunt work, martial arts and swordplay, which Jones is doing most of himself, according to SciFi Wire.
“All of the sword and fighting stuff I like to do myself,” Jones said in an interview. “They've got an expert in kickboxing to simulate some of my kicks, but other than that, I try to do it, all me. ... I've been preparing for this role my whole life, because I've been in training for as long as I remember. Weight training, fighting training. ... Boxing training. But now it's all about martial-arts training.”
To perfect his moves, Jones has been working with Ernest Jackson. Jackson is no stranger to the fantasy genre, having worked on Underworld: Evolution, The Fog, Fantastic Four, Catwoman and The Chronicles of Riddick.
New Line Television will initially produce 11 episodes of Blade: The Series. The two-hour series premiere will air on Spike TV on June 28 at 10 pm ET/PT.
