Hot on the heels of its Peabody Award, Battlestar Galactica has received recognition in another top awards ceremony. At last night's 32nd Annual Saturn Awards, presented by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, Battlestar Galactica won in the category of Best Syndicated Cable/Television Series.

Galactica was also named in two acting categories. Jamie Bamber and James Callis were up for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series and Katee Sackhoff was among the nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series. Callis and Sackhoff won.

The award for Best Network Television Series went to Lost for the second successive year. The show was nominated alongside Invasion, Surface, Prison Break, Veronica Mars, Smallville and Supernatural. Awards for the Best Actor and Best Actress on Television were given to Matthew Fox (for Lost) and Kristen Bell (for Veronica Mars)

In the film categories the award for Best Science Fiction Film went to Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. George Lucas' film had received 10 nominations, the most in this year's awards. Ultimately, however, it received only two. The second was for John Williams' score.

King Kong and Batman Begins received three awards each, the most given to any film among the nominations. Batman Begins received Best Fantasy Film, Christian Bale won the award for Best Actor in a movie and Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer won in the Best Writing category. Peter Jackson was named Best Director for King Kong, which also earned awards for Naomi Watts (Best Actress in a movie) and Joe Letteri, Richard Taylor, Christian Rivers and Brian Van't Hul (Best Special Effects).

Special awards were presented this year to Ray Harryhausen, Brandon Routh and Shane Black. Harryhausen received the George Pal Memorial Award in recognition of his achievements in producing and special effects work. Routh, who will play the title role in Superman Returns, was given the Rising Star Award and Black was given the Filmmakers Showcase Award for his work on the film Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.
