Images of a rather green Silver Surfer have begun to "surface" on the web over the past 24 hours — more specifically, images of an actor wearing the ubiquitous green suit employed whenever motion capture and CGI effects are used.

Over at flickr.com you can catch a couple of these photos, one of which is pictured at right.

In Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, the Surfer will be portrayed by noted character actor Doug Jones, whose remarkable persona will be brought to life by the VFX wizards of Weta Digital. Fox tapped Weta to create a state-of-the-art version of the character after their extraordinary work on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, iRobot and King Kong. Jones will provide performance and movement references for Weta, in a process similar to the way Andy Serkis portrayed Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The voice casting of Silver Surfer has yet to be determined. Word is Weta has developed an advanced computer-generated animation process that employs motion-capture techniques updated to add further dimensionality to the liquid-metal hero.

Elsewhere over the past couple of weeks, the crew of the film have been hard at work constructing the rooftop garden set of the "Baxter Building" atop the Metro parkade on West Pender St. here in Vancouver.

The set is for one of the film's pivotal scenes: the wedding of Invisible Girl (Jessica Alba) and Mr. Fantastic (Ioan Gruffudd).

As you might imagine, it's brought people out in droves in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the big production, and an alert, longtime HNR reader, Jeremy, managed to scoop several shots from the wedding exclusively for HNR, one of which you can see above and to the left.

With the arrival of the planet-devouring, ancient super being, Galactus in the film — along with his "herald," or scavenger of sorts, Silver Surfer — don't be surprised if the beautiful wedding (and we have to admit, Alba does look lovely in these pics), is rudely interrupted.

Marvel's first family of superheroes, "The Fantastic Four," meets their greatest challenge yet in Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer as the enigmatic, intergalactic herald, The Silver Surfer, comes to Earth to prepare it for destruction. As the Silver Surfer races around the globe wreaking havoc, Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben must unravel the mystery of the Silver Surfer and confront the surprising return of their mortal enemy, Dr. Doom, before all hope is lost.
