Marc Toberoff’s Intellectual Properties Worldwide (IPW) has acquired film rights to Sergio Aragones' Groo The Wanderer.

Noted for his long-running Spy Vs Spy feature in EC's Mad Magazine, Aragones and writer Mark Evanier, created Groo in 1983.

First published in 1985 by Marvel Comics imprint 'Epic', the character has since appeared in over 170 comic book issues.

Aragones and Evanier will write the screenplay as part of their deal with IPW.

Premise of Groo follows the misadventures of a naive barbarian who roams the land with his dog 'Rufferto', encountering dragons, wizards, witches and kings along the way.

Aragones has been a regular contributor to 'Mad' since 1963, winning the 'Reuben Award' from the National Cartoonists Society.

Evanier has extensive writing credits in television, earning three Emmy nominations. His comic writing also includes Garfield and Friends, Mother Goose and Grimm and Superman.

Both Aragones and Evanier have been nominated for fifteen 'Eisner Awards' since 1992 (twelve for Groo), winning the award six times.

IPW recently set up My Bodyguard at Dimension and has other projects in development including The Immortals at Paramount and Fantasy Island at Sony.

Other IPW properties in various stages of development include Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Guys and Dolls, Grand Hotel, Rififi, Little Caesar, Asphalt Jungle, Sanford & Son, Hart to Hart, Ironside, Police Woman and Piranha.

Aragones and Evanier will also be credited as executive producers of Groo.
