I forgot to mention this before, but this list will likely always be incomplete, so we're going to rely on everyone to make it as accurate as possible. So if you don't find the sign here, try to find out so we can help each other out that way. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

quite a few signs will not make too much sense as they are for "indie" (independant movies) or what is commonly refered to as "low budget"...meaning that the movie costs under $2million to make !!!! Most of the movies being filmed right now are MOW meaning (movies of the week or Made for TV) .here are some of the abrv.
SCP- Taming Tammy
Insight- NUMB
Insight- Family in Hiding
FFP- Fatal Flaw
HRP- Blade Season One
TMF or Three Moons - Three Moons over Milford

the list goes on and on and on......

I saw this in the globe and mail this morning:

Vancouver art controversy is just a sign of the times
ROD MICKLEBURGH
VANCOUVER -- In the postmodern world it seems, one man's art can be another man's property.

So it was that a member of the Vancouver Police Department strode into the ultra-cool Contemporary Art Gallery on a lovely, sunlit afternoon one day last week to inform the gallery that David Grandy wanted his signs back.

The gallery was caught red-handed. The signs were right there, bold as brass, in the gallery's big front windows. They carried brightly coloured, somewhat mysterious words and acronyms, such as "HUFF," "B32U," "INFINITY" and "WORK CREW" stencilled on arrows.

According to the gallery, this was art, an enchanting installation piece called Production Postings by Vancouver artist Christian Kliegel.

But 40 of the signs, Mr. Grandy complained, were not art at all, but his. The local businessman decided to call police.

This is what can happen when contemporary art runs up against a no-nonsense guy trying to make a living.

The smallish, $9-apiece signs are a familiar sight in the city, cryptic location pointers for crews working on the movie and TV productions that are worth more than a billion dollars a year to the local economy.

Mr. Kliegel has been collecting these signs for the past three years, and early this month, he amassed several hundred in the windows of the downtown gallery as a major installation.

Mr. Grandy, meanwhile, runs a company called Off Set Rentals, one of many in the city that provides equipment to movie shoots, including the ubiquitous direction signs.

Enter the police. "The complainant lost a lot of them," Constable Tim Fanning said yesterday. "Over three years, at nine bucks a pop, it adds up, so he wanted them back."

The gallery quickly agreed to return Mr. Grandy's signs, but not without considerable bemusement and wonder at it all.

"These signs go missing all the time. I've seen them on eBay," gallery director Christina Ritchie said.

"I do respect property, but are these signs really his personal property? They're on city streets, up for grabs. He's left them there.

"I understand he's already compensated by the production companies for any signs that go missing."

Unsurprisingly, Ms. Ritchie does not think much of Mr. Grandy's potential as an art critic.

"It is sad and disappointing that he can't see or appreciate the unique and insightful image of Vancouver that Kliegel has created using this material," she said.

"And it has a sense of humour which, apparently, isn't shared by the signs' 'rightful owner.' "

The police are not laughing, either.

"It kind of annoys me that they think this is amusing," Constable Fanning said. "The signs are clearly marked as his, they are worth money and he wanted us to get them back."

Contemporary art, of course, is not easy for the so-called ordinary person to grasp.

Ms. Ritchie was asked whether the exhibit was little more than a bunch of signs.

Well, she replied carefully, "Art isn't really about trees and cows and madonnas. It's about reality and reflecting that reality back to us.

"What Christian has done is create a very iconic depiction of a very real aspect of Vancouver," she said.

"The piece is really quite a strong image. It says something about Vancouver as a film location and how pervasive the film industry is. All the film people think it's great."

Nor is Mr. Grandy's move to reclaim his share of the installation an end to its effectiveness, Ms. Ritchie added.

His signs are being replaced with photocopies of the originals, and an open letter from the gallery to Mr. Grandy will be posted in the window, enhancing the artistic statement.

"If art does reflect reality, social processes are part of that reality," Ms. Ritchie explained.

"This doesn't ruin the installation at all. It just changes it to reflect what goes on in the world."

The artist was also defended by gallery curator Jenifer Papararo.

"It's true he took the signs, but a lot were just abandoned. It wasn't malicious," Ms. Papararo said. "He has been dedicated to this for three years and he has created a strong holistic spectacle."

Neither Mr. Grandy nor his artistic adversary, Mr. Kliegel, could be reached for comment yesterday.

^ About the "art display of filming signs" story above.

I'm not sure if this is the gallery the story was talking about, but I saw a display for this yesterday near Nelson and Richards in downtown Vancouver. Quite a display -- it covers 9 windows across. I took pics of each one.
