(07/12/04) With filming almost over I can safely say that this is NO Catwoman and actually seems like it will be a totally watch able film….not a Spider-Man 2 or X2 or Batman or anything on that level but definitely a decent comic book film with what appears to be strong direction and good ninja action (which you never really can get too much of).

(02/23/04) Originally I was not expecting much from this Daredevil spin off. But now that some details are out on the story I'm a little hyped. Filmjerk learned that two of the baddies are:

Stone: An enormous man whose flesh seems to be made of something akin to stone Typhoid: looks to be based on the Marvel character Typhoid Mary -- Typhoid is a woman wearing a kimono and a porcelain white mask. Offering a kiss that is ultimately poisonous, Typhoid can reduce a foe to a feverish corpse.

Still To Come

Production Notes:

Vancouver, British Columbia… Principal photography has begun in Vancouver, British Columbia, on the Regency Enterprises/Twentieth Century Fox production Elektra, starring Jennifer Garner.

Co-starring Goran Visnjic (Welcome to Sarajevo) and Terence Stamp (The Collector), Elektra is directed by Rob Bowman (Reign of Fire, The X-Files, winner of three Golden Globes for producing and directing The X-Files television series); and produced by Arnon Milchan (Man on Fire, Daredevil), Gary Foster (Daredevil, The Score, Sleepless in Seattle), Avi Arad (Spider-Man, X-Men, X2), Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil, Simon Birch). The screenplay is by Stu Zicherman & Raven Metzner and Zak Penn (X2) and Henry Bean (The Believer).

Jennifer Garner reprises the role of Elektra, which she originated in the Regency Enterprises/Twentieth Century Fox hit Daredevil. Having survived the seemingly mortal wounds she suffered in Daredevil, Elektra has become the world’s most dangerous assassin. Driven by the suppressed rage she harbors for her parents’ brutal murders, Elektra is a magnificent killing machine – and a lethal synthesis of grace and power. She has purposefully severed all ties with the world and lives only for her next assignment. In an unexpected turn of events, Elektra’s latest contract forces her to make a decision that can take her life in a whole new direction – or destroy her.

Jennifer Garner received a Golden Globe® Award for her portrayal of Sydney Bristow, the lead character in the People’s Choice Award winning dramatic series “Alias”. Garner’s performance as a double agent trying to live a normal life has earned her a Screen Actors Guild®, two Emmy® and three Golden Globe Award nominations. Garner recently starred in the box office hit 13 Going on 30 co-starring Mark Ruffalo. Garner co-starred with Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett in Pearl Harbor and with Ashton Kutcher in Dude, Where’s My Car?

Goran Visnjic made his American debut in the critically acclaimed motion picture Welcome To Sarajevo, directed by Michael Winterbottom. He currently stars, as Dr. Luka Kovac, in NBC’s critically acclaimed drama ER. Visnjic appeared in the title role of USA Film’s Spartacus and also in the psychological thriller Close Your Eyes. He received rave reviews for his performance in Fox Searchlight’s The Deep End opposite Tilda Swinton. Visnjic’s other film credits include the voice of Soto in Fox’s animated film Ice Age, Committed, Practical Magic and The Peacemaker.

Terence Stamp’s remarkable and lengthy career has recently included The Limey for director Steven Soderbergh, for which Stamp earned a nomination for Best Male Lead at the 2000 Independent Spirit Awards, as well as a nomination for Best Actor at the London Film Critics Circle Awards. One of his splashiest choices was the comedy The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Stamp’s other feature film credits include Superman, directed by Richard Donner; The Hit; William Wyler’s The Collector (for which Stamp won Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival); John Schlesinger’s adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Far From the Madding Crowd; Wall Street, directed by Oliver Stone; and Joseph Losey’s Modesty Blaise.

The behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Bill Roe, ASC (The X-Files television series), production designer Graeme Murray (Look Who’s Talking, Knight Moves), costume designer Lisa Tomczeszyn (Daredevil, The Punisher) and editor Kevin Stitt (X-Men, A Knight’s Tale).

Elektra is scheduled for release on February 18th, 2005.
