Vancouver Production Update
From Cannell to Kumite to Mustard Pancakes?
October 7th 2004 03:05am | Posted by: Editor-in-Chief

- Stephen J. Cannell, who’s been responsible for some of the greatest TV Series to ever call Vancouver home—from 21 Jump Street to Wiseguy to The Commish, returns to town with his latest feature film It Waits. Cannell is set to Executive Produce with Steven R. Monroe (House of 9) directing from a script by Richard Christian Matheson and Thomas Szollosi. Filming is set for October 14th thru November 5th, 2004 at Lions Gate Film Studios in North Vancouver.

The plot: In a remote wilderness, a demon is accidentally released from its ancient tomb - and one man alone stands in its way...

Back in Early 2003, Dolph Lundgren (Masters of the Universe, Universal Soldier) was cast as “Mike,” the lead in the film, and shooting was set to take place in Liverpool that summer on a budget of $6 million dollars…but it never happened. So now the production is back AND we can confirm that Lundgren is no longer attached to star.

- The Screen Gems feature tentatively titled The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel has set up shop at the Vancouver Film Studios with production set for November 16th, 2004 thru January 21st, 2005. The film is based on the true story of Anneliese Michel, who in 1976 was recognized by the Catholic Church as being under demonic possession. In the ensuing exorcism, Michel died, and one priest stood trial as a result.

The film will be the directorial debut for writer Scott Derrickson (Urban Legends: Final Cut, Hellraiser: Inferno) who co-wrote the screenplay for this film with his writing partner Paul Harris Boardman (Urban Legends: Final Cut, Hellraiser: Inferno). Producing is Tom Rosenberg (Underworld, The Hurricane) and Gary Lucchesi (Underworld, The Human Stain).

- Laurie Holden (The Majestic, The X-Files) has been cast in Fantastic Four as the love interest of Michael Chiklis (The Thing).

- The feature film Fatal Reunion, helmed by Vancouver based director George Erschbamer (Hardball, Bounty Hunters) is planning an October 21st thru November 4th shoot for producers James Shavick and Kirk Shaw.

- The oddly named TV Series Mustard Pancakes will shoot October 25th, 2004 thru February 25th, 2005.

- Director Len Wiseman’s Underworld 2 is set to shoot November 29th, 2004 thru March 18th, 2005 at Vancouver Film Studios.

- Jean-Claude van Damme’s “comeback” film Kumite has again pushed back its start date. Production is now set to run November 29th, 2004 thru February 7th, 2005.
