Moonlighting - Season 3
Review by Ricky Smith | HNR Contributor

I’m feeling a tad nostalgic as I was the one who reviewed the series one DVD of this classic 80’s TV show.

Moonlighting centers around a former wealthy model Maddie Hayes (Cybil Sheppard) who’s had the majority of her money stolen by a former business manager. She ends up owning a few run-of-the mill businesses, one of which is a Private Investigation firm run by David Addison (Bruce Willis) Mr. Die Hard himself. His goal is to ensure the company will make money and that she would be foolish to close it.

Of course a zillion other things that come into play, namely sexual tension. The dynamic between Bruce and Cybil will probably go down as one of the best onscreen couples in TV history. Off screen, they were the polar opposite. They couldn’t stand one another and ego’s played a huge role in the shows ultimate demise. Season 3 ran during the 84-85 season and was right before a little film called Die Hard was made.

Season 3 was probably the pinnacle of the series. The heat between Maddie and David was at an all time high, not-to-mention the series itself had developed quite nicely. The episodes were usually high concept situations with the perfect blend of mystery, comedy and passion.

Atomic Shakespeare is the most insane episode during the show’s run. It has the entire cast re-enacting Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. Hilarious! Blonde on Blonde[i] and [i]Poltergeist III are probably my other favorite episodes in the season, but all-in-all it’s a great collection and probably the best in the series five year run.

Again, a series that casts BOOGER (Curtis Armstrong) from Revenge of the Nerds fame has got to be an innovative show that doesn’t care about the public’s perception. Hey he was the bomb in Ray!

DVD Extra Features: Pretty good! There are a few select episodes with commentary by Cybil and/or Bruce which is awesome. There is also a half an hour documentary that interviews the cast, writers and producers.

Pick up Season 3, because the show goes to hell once David and Maddie sleep together. Course that was once Die Hard came out and Bruce was this giant mega-star! Conspiracy?
